The 32nd Florida Bicycle Safari will be held April 21 - 26, 2012. Registration will open January 1, 2012.
The Florida Bicycle Safari is a springtime bicycling adventure that features six days of supported rides over some of the best cycling roads in North Florida and South Georgia. The six-day Safari is limited to 250 participants. A three-day option is also available for those whose schedules do not permit riding the full tour.
For the first time, there will be a Safari jersey available.
The first three days will be based at the Suwannee County Fairgrounds in Live Oak. Different routes will be offered each day with several mileage options, including a century on Sunday.
Monday, while the three-day cyclists loop back to Live Oak, six-day riders head north past the town of Madison. The Safari will camp at the Cherry Lake campground for three nights. A different route will be featured each day, again with several mileage options, and will include a century on Tuesday.
All Safari routes are staffed throughout the day with well-marked SAG wagons, while a mechanic-on-wheels will also be driving the routes for minor repairs and emergency adjustments. Rest stops providing drinks, snacks, sandwich provisions, and fruit will be set up approximately every 18 to 25 miles.
Maps/Cue sheets of the routes will be provided at check-in and all routes will be clearly marked. The luggage for the six-day riders will be transported by Safari trucks.
Registration fees include camping facilities and meals. For those on the six-day Safari who would rather not "rough it", a limited number of primitive dormitory-style cabins are available at Cherry Lake for the last three days for an additional fee on a first-come, first-served basis. There is also a female only dorm available at Cherry Lake with AC and showers for an additional fee.
Beginning with breakfast on Saturday all breakfasts and dinners will be catered by the Dixie Grill. Lunch will be provided in Cherry Lake.
Hotels are located within 15 miles, but are not included in the registration fee.
